• 1pm—Hollywood on Hamilton: Remembering Hess’s Screening—Enjoy this popular PBS documentary highlighting the history of Hess’s, from sweet memories of eating strawberry pie in the Patio to rubbing elbows with world-famous celebrities! Relive the golden days which may be lost but not forgotten.
• 2-4pm—Hess’s Department Store Book Signing and Discussion—Co-author Frank Whelan returns to sign his book, Hess’s Department Store, from the Images of America series. Through a series of photographs including many from private collections, Hess’s Department Store brings the glory days of Hess’s to life again.
• 4:30pm to 6:00—Lehigh Valley Historical Society Presentation—A representative from the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum will discuss the cultural significance of Hess’s as well as its impact on the community and generational effect. A collection of Hess’s memorabilia will be displayed including rare items belonging to Max Hess and his family. Don’t miss your chance to see these rare treasures!
• 6:00pm—I Remember Hess’s…—Everyone in the Valley has a beloved memory of their visits to Hess’s. Share your favorite Hess’s stories during an open symposium with the community.
A visit to Hess’s was never complete without a stop at the Patio Restaurant. Throughout the day the Retro Deli will transform as they salute this famous eatery. Visits from models will bring fashions to life while you take pleasure in featured menu items inspired by the original Patio recipes, including their renowned Strawberry Pie!
